
Fani - Maria Tsigakou
Fani-Maria Tsigakou is an art historian. Her research specializes in the works of Greek-themed art by foreign painter-travelers from the 16th to the 19th century. Her work in this field has been internationally recognized. She has published numerous related studies, organized over fifty exhibitions in Europe and the United States, and delivered a series of lectures at museums and institutions in Europe and the U.S. Her book "The Rediscovery of Greece," Thames & Hudson, 1981 (in Greek: "Ανακαλύπτοντας την Ελλάδα"), was considered the first comprehensive study on the subject of painter-travelers in Greece and has been translated into five languages. She works at the Benaki Museum as the Curator of the Department of Paintings, Prints, and Drawings.
