Giannis Skaragas

Giannis Skaragas is a novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. He was born in Komotini and raised in Thessaloniki. He studied at the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece. He speaks four languages. His novels published in Greek include "Epifania" (Ellinika Grammata, 2002), "The Homeland of Touch" (Patakis, 2004), "The Enigmatic Gaze of the Angel" (Patakis, 2008), "The Sky You Dream Of" (Kritiki, 2014), "Longing Left Over from Yesterday" (Kritiki, 2018), as well as the plays "Three Plays" (Kritiki, 2015) and the novella "The Lady of Ro" (Kritiki, 2017), which was also adapted for the stage. He has worked for over a decade in television and film. Writing directly in English, his short stories have been published in American journals such as "World Literature Today," "Copper Nickel," "American Chordata," "The Charles Carter," "Tower Journal," "Spilled Milk," "Midnight Circus," "Crannog," "Story Shack," "Subprimal Poetry Art," among others. His play "Prime Numbers" premiered in New York in 2009 and was nominated for the New York Innovative Theatre Awards. He collaborates with the magazine "Entefktirio." He is a Fulbright Foundation scholar and a member of the Association of European Journalists. He has been honored by the Ledig-Rowohlt Foundation, Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Villa Strauli, and the University of Iowa (IWP). In November 2015, he represented Greece at the "A Soul for Europe" event in Berlin, under the auspices of the European Parliament.
