Ioanna Papathanasiou

Ioanna Papathanasiou was born in Athens in November 1958. In 1980, she graduated from the Department of Political Science at Panteion University and continued her studies in political sociology and history in Paris at the Universities of Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne and Paris X-Nanterre, where she defended her doctoral dissertation in modern world history in 1988. From 1988 to 1994, she collaborated with the Centre d'Histoire et de Sociologie du Communisme, where she conducted postdoctoral research on the "Soviet archives" concerning Greece and the Balkans during their opening period. She served as a research director at the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE), was a key member of the Contemporary Social History Archives (ASKI) from 1994 to 2014, and taught at the Hellenic Open University (HOU).
