Deborah Ellis

Deborah Ellis works as a counselor at a group home in Toronto. Her first children's book, "Looking for X," won the Governor General's Award for Children's Literature. A few years ago, Deborah Ellis traveled to Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan to conduct interviews for her oral history book "Women of the Afghan War." The stories she heard and the children she met inspired her works "The Breadwinner" and "Parvana's Journey."
