Katerina Karizoni

Katerina Karizoni was born in Thessaloniki, where she attended the German School. She studied economics and holds a Ph.D. in Economic Sciences from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She worked for fifteen years at the National Bank of Greece. She has published novels, short stories, poetry books, historical albums, and children's books. Novels: "My Angel Was Fallen" (1997), "Waltz in the Mist" (2001), "Tea with Cavafy" (2004), "Great Algiers" (2006), and "The Map of Dreams" (2011). Short Stories: "The One-Eyed and Other Pirate Stories" (2009). Poetry: "First Rains" (1969), "Dimensions" (1972), "Pinocchio" (1975), "Unexpected Summer" (1978), "Tea and Mythology" (1985), "Full Moon on Fragkon Street" (1990), "The Peacocks of Vlatadon Monastery" (1992), "The Tailor Radoslav from 1470" (2001), "The Female Face of Poetry in Thessaloniki" (anthology, 2006), "Boarding" (2009). Historical Albums (contributions): "Thessaloniki and the National Bank" (1989) and "Piracy in Mani and the Mediterranean" (2010). Children's Books: "A Thousand and One Nights of the Balkans" (1989), "Shakespeare in 7+2 Fairy Tales" (1990), "The Trial of the Fairy Tales" (1992), "The Emperor's Journey with the Lost Face" (1993), "Fairy Tales from the Operas" (1997), "The Journey of the Fairy Tales" (1998), "Once Upon a Time in a Forest Clearing" (2005), "The Magic Flute" (2005). She collaborates with various literary magazines, publishing critical notes, essays, and literary texts. In 1991, she was awarded the First Prize by the Circle of the Greek Children's Book for her book "A Thousand and One Nights of the Balkans." In 2009, she received the "Avlea" magazine award for her body of work. Her texts and poems have been translated into Balkan languages, German, English, and Polish. Her poems have been set to music by Michalis Grigoriou and performed by Savina Yannatou. She is a member of the Thessaloniki Society of Writers.
