Konstantina Douka

Konstantina Douka was born and studied in Athens. She has been involved in theatrical writing and prose. She has been honored three times by the Ministry of Culture and Sciences with two state commendations and one award for her plays "The Game of Love," "The Road to the Upper World," and "The Attic," which was staged at the New Stage of the National Theatre in 1997-1998.In the same year, Konstantina Douka was awarded by the Society of Greek Writers for her play "Bidding Farewell to the Outsiders."Alongside her work in theatre, she has also written short stories and novels. Her works in this field include a collection of short stories titled "Sotiris the Blacksmith and His World," which was translated into Japanese by the Byzantinist Masako Kindo. The first of these stories received First Prize in a National Short Story Competition (1976) and was dramatized and presented on ERT, directed by Ilias Mylonakos. Other works include "The Conspiracy" (1983), "Mystery Stories" (1987), theatrical texts under the general title "One-Act Plays" (1992), "The General’s Daughter" (1998), and "Readings of Seven Voices" (1998), in which the author participated in a group short story publication. Additionally, her short stories have been translated into Bulgarian by the publishing house PELICAN ALFA in a volume titled "Twelve Modern Greek Short Story Writers."In February 2013, Konstantina Douka presented her play "The Attic" at the "Michailas Averoff" hall as part of the theatrical events of the Society of Greek Writers. In the same year, she presented her play "The Visitor" as a staged reading at cafe volter. In March 2015, she also presented "The Visitor" at the "Michailas Averoff" hall of the Society of Greek Writers.Her works, both theatrical and prose, have been presented by the media and are included in both foreign and Greek anthologies. In 2016, the book "The Secret Windows" was published, featuring a collection of short stories by Konstantina Douka and Kiki Segditsa. In 2018, her play "The Stranger on the Train" was published and staged at many municipal theaters in Athens.Konstantina Douka has been a member of the Society of Greek Writers since 1983, serving as President of the Admissions Committee for new members from 2012 to 2014, and as a member of the Board of Directors from 2016 to 2018. She is also a member of the Society of Greek Playwrights and the Hellenic Centre of the International Theatre Institute.
