Giannis N. THanopoulos

Giannis Thanopoulos was born in 1948. He began his academic studies at the Athens University of Economics and Business and completed a Master's degree at City University in London. In 1983, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, USA, and was elected Assistant Professor and Director of International Business at the University of Akron, Ohio, where he served as a full professor from 1992 to 2000. He has been a full professor at the University of Piraeus since May 2000. Among many other activities, he continues to be actively involved in the practice and ethics of international business, is a member of numerous international organizations, and has served as a founding and presiding member of the Greater Akron Export Association. He has also been the academic dean of the American College of Greece, a speaker at over thirty international conferences, and has received awards from the University of Akron: the Teaching Excellence Award (1988), the Publication Award (1997), and the Teaching Innovation Award (1997). Additionally, he received the (E) Excellence Award from the Governor of Ohio for his program at the University of Akron and the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Executives Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Akron (1994). His more than eighty academic papers, articles, collections, and case studies have been featured in books or journals.
