
Vasilis I. Tzanakaris
Vasilis I. Tzanakaris was born in Pentapolis in 1944 but grew up and lived in the city of Serres. He studied political and economic sciences at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and began his career in journalism at the age of sixteen. He published three newspapers and nineteen books. From 1975, for 34 years, he published the monthly Serres magazine "Giati" ("Why"). He was a pioneer in radio and television, working in these fields for many years. He is a member of the Hellenic Authors' Society, the Northern Greece Publishers Association, and a corresponding member of the Journalists' Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers. His articles, studies, poems, and interviews have been published in numerous newspapers in Athens and Thessaloniki. His book "Dakrismeni Mikrasia" ("Asia Minor in Tears") was awarded the State Literature Prize in 2008 in the "Chronicle - Testimony" category. He has published the historical books "Ta Pallikaria Ta Kala Syntrofia Ta Skotonoun" ("Good Fellows Kill Their Comrades") (2002, Kastaniotis), "Tote Pou Ximerone Skotadi" ("When Darkness Dawned") (2005, Kastaniotis), and "Dakrismeni Mikrasia 1919-1922" ("Asia Minor in Tears 1919-1922") (2007, Metaichmio).
