Judith Herrin

Judith Herrin studied History at the universities of Cambridge and Birmingham, where she also completed her doctoral dissertation. She has worked in Athens, Paris, and Munich and succeeded Stanley J. Seeger as Professor of Byzantine History at Princeton before taking on her current position at King's. She became well-known primarily for her book "The Formation of Christendom" (London 1989), but she also has numerous publications on Byzantine archaeology and other topics to her credit. Her current research interests focus on women in Byzantium and Byzantium's relationship with Islam and the West. She is the director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies at King's College London.
