Carmen Martin Gaite

Carmen Martín Gaite was born in Salamanca in 1925 and passed away in 2001. She studied philology at the University of Salamanca and began her writing career in 1954 with the book "El Balneario," which won the Cafe de Gijon Short Story Award. Since then, she wrote numerous novels and explored various genres, including science fiction, essays, historical books, and television scriptwriting. Among other accolades, she was honored with the National Literature Prize and the National Prize for Spanish Literature in 1994. Gaite also translated works of major foreign authors and taught at renowned universities in Spain, the USA, and elsewhere.
