Giorgos Freris

Giorgos Freris was born in Thessaloniki, where he has lived permanently since 1985. He holds a degree in French Philology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Modern Greek Philology from the University of Ioannina. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the "François Rabelais" University in Tours, France. He served as a French language teacher at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina and as a Professor of Comparative Literature at the French Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1998, he founded the Laboratory of Comparative Literature and published the annual academic journal "Dia-Keimena," featuring articles in Greek, French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German, as well as the academic publication series "Diakeimenika." He was a pioneer in European postgraduate programs, and his major academic works include: - "The 'Mishellenism' of Chateaubriand and the 'Philhellenism' of Lamartine" (in French), 1976 - "The First World War and the National Crisis of Conscience in Greece and France through the Novel" (in French), 1985 - "Introduction to the War Novel, Greek and European" (in Greek), 1992 - "Introduction to Francophonie. Panorama of Francophone Literatures" (in Greek), 1999. He has also published the following poetry collections: - "Lysippon Rhythms," 1984 - "Chronaxia," 1987 - "Scars of Dreams," 1997 - "Iridescences of Patience," 2002 - "Planar Curves," 2006 - "Metastases in the Bed of Love," 2008 - "Testament," 2015. Freris has also engaged in literary translation, rendering into Greek works by Saint-Exupery, Eugene Guillevic, Leopold Senghor, Jules Supervielle, Ceil Jouanar, Jean Joubert, Frederic-Jacques Table, Louise Labe, and two poetry collections by Christian Bobin, in collaboration with his wife, Maria Orfanidou. He translated into French works by Dimitris Hadzis, Markos Augeris, Vasilis Margaris, Kostas Vlachos, Chrysanthi Zitsaia, Archimandrite Ierotheos Vlachos, Hieromonk Moisis, Frixos Tsiovas, Yosef Elygia, and Kostas Nikolaidis.
