
Raymond Williams
Raymond Henry Williams (Wales, August 31, 1921 - Saffron Walden, January 26, 1988) was a prominent academic and influential critic of literature and culture, and one of the leading figures of the British Marxist "New Left" thought of the 1960s and 1970s. After graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge (1946), he taught at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and Stanford. His major works include: "Culture and Society" (1958), "The Long Revolution" (1961), "The Country and the City" (1973), "Television: Technology and Cultural Form" (1974), "Marxism and Literature" (1977), "Problems in Materialism and Culture" (1980), and "Culture" (U.S. edition titled "The Sociology of Culture") (1981).
