Giannis Gryntakis

Giannis Gryntakis was born in Rethymno in 1940, where he completed his studies at the then B Gymnasium. He graduated from the Department of History at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, where he also completed his doctoral dissertation. He served in Secondary Education as a teacher and at the Pedagogical Institute for 12 years as a scientific associate in the field of history. He taught for many years in postgraduate programs at the University of Athens and in teacher training seminars (P.E.K.). He has participated as a speaker in numerous conferences and as a member of various educational committees. He is responsible for the content and publication of the journal "Ta Ekpaideftika." In his extensive writing career, in addition to three high school history textbooks, he has authored: a) Dozens of articles on historical or pedagogical topics in various scientific journals and newspapers. b) Many independent works-studies, such as: "The Protocol of Rethymnian Notary Tzortzis Pantimos (1613-42)," Athens 1990, "The Protocol of Rethymnian Notary Giannis Vlastos, Rousitka (1559-1614)," "Two Cretan Villages (Melidoni - Agia) in the mid-16th century," Athens 1990, "The Protocol of Rethymnian Notary Andreas Kallergis (1634-46)," Athens 1994, "Imbros and Tenedos: Two Forgotten Greek Islands (1910-30)," Athens 1995, "The Conquest of Western Crete by the Turks. The Attitude of the Residents of the Rethymno District," Rethymno 1998, among others.
