Maria Kardatou

Maria Kardatou is a poet. She was born in Thessaloniki, where she continues to reside. She studied English literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and also pursued studies in Italian and Russian language and literature. She worked as a teacher in private education and for a period in secondary education. She has published the following poetry collections: - "Erotikos Enikos" (1987), Ek Paradromis Editions - Aimilios Kaliakatsos - "The Hook" (1994), Achaikes Editions - "Aeroleschi" (1997), Tramakia Editions - "Neither Dew" (2002), Nefeli Editions - "Innocent Passage" (2009), Nefeli Editions - "The Dismantling of the Shadow", Gavriilidis Editions and the children's book: - "The Bitter Flower of Tobacco in 1992", ASE Editions. Her poems have been published in various Greek and American magazines. An excerpt from the collection "The Hook" was released in a bilingual edition by publisher and translator Darlene Fife (Lewisburg, West Virginia, 1997). Additionally, Darlene Fife translated "Poems of Thessaloniki" from "Aeroleschi" and the poetry collection "Neither Dew," both of which were also published in bilingual editions. Her poems have also been translated into French, German, and Italian in anthologies, including in French: "Voix Anthologie Bilingue de Femmes Grecques" by Josette Doron, in Italian: "Voci dal'agora" by Maurizio Di Rosa, and in German: "Fern von der dicht sprache" by Dadi Sideri-Spech. Furthermore, her poems have been published in the poetry anthology "The Female Face of Thessaloniki" by Katerina Karizoni.
