Giorgis Manousakis

The poet Giorgis Manousakis (1933-2008) was born and lived in Chania. He studied at the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens and worked for 26 years in Secondary Education. He published poetry collections, prose works, as well as a study on Prevelakis' Crete, "The Journey of Sfakia," a collection of 32 short prose pieces, and the narrative "When Our Foot Matched the Ground," where he recounts his childhood years, which coincide with the war and occupation. His short stories, poems, travel impressions, and many of his studies have been published in magazines and newspapers in Chania and Athens, while part of his work remains unpublished. In 1977, he was awarded the Kazantzakis Prize for his work up to that point, and in 1981, he received the State Prize for "The Journey of Sfakia." After his death, his unpublished novel "The Volunteer" was published.
