Kyriakos Plisis

Kyriakos Plisis was born in Akanthou, Famagusta, in 1929. After graduating from the Greek Gymnasium of Famagusta, he attended the Morfou Teachers College and worked for five years as a teacher. He then studied Greek philology at the University of Athens and pursued further education in pedagogy at the Universities of Edinburgh and London. He worked at the First Gymnasium of Famagusta as a teacher, deputy principal, and principal. In 1973, he was promoted to inspector of philological subjects. Since 1975, he has been residing in Athens, where he worked as a teacher and high school principal in various schools. In 1985, he became a school counselor and retired in 1989. In addition to his career in education, he has also been involved in literature, particularly poetry and essays. He has been awarded the State Prize by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus three times: twice for his essay collections "Reflections" in 1972 and "After the Bankruptcy of the Doctrine" in 1992, and once for his poetry collection "Writing of Sorrow" in 1975. In 1997, his book "Essay on Love and Other Essays" was awarded the Christos Malevitsis Prize. He regularly collaborates with the magazines "New Education" and "Responsibility" and occasionally with other Cypriot and Greek magazines.
