Sokratis Kampouropoulos
Sokratis Kampouropoulos was born in Volos in 1962. He studied at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and film at the Eugenia Hatzikou School between 1984-87. He participated in films by L. Papastathis and D. Theos. Between 1988-1991, he collaborated with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology as a research program evaluator, worked with the Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government, and taught for a year at the Technical University of Crete. He also worked as a director at a local government company in Crete (ANETEK SA). From 1996-2014, he served as a special advisor at the National Book Centre of Greece, responsible for research ("Book Observatory") and programs for book contributors ("Biblionet", "Digital Book Observatory"), as well as for the "book and cinema" events. Between 2014-2015, he attended the National School of Public Administration. From July 2016 to August 2018, he was the coordinator of the Working Group for Book Strategy Development at the Ministry of Culture, alongside Efi Giannopoulou (presentation of proposals: May/June 2017), and simultaneously, a special advisor on book matters in the offices of Culture Ministers Ar. Baltas and L. Koniordou. He has collaborated with the magazines "Diavazo" and "Book Press" with articles on the book market and interviews with authors (Jens Christian Grondal, Henrik Nordbrand, Daniel Kehlmann, Ingo Schulze, Boualem Sansal, Bahaa Taher, Ylljet Alicka, Andre Schiffrin, etc.). He writes and translates poetry from English. Between 2009-2012, he participated in organizing the Greek-English Poetry Translation Meetings in Lefkes, Paros, and at the European Cultural Centre of Delphi. He has translated poetry from English for books and magazines, including works by Theo Dorgan, John Tripoulas, Seamus Heaney, Paula Meehan, Ciaran Carson, Fiona Sampson, Harry Clifton, Brendan Kennelly, William Carlos Williams, among others, and edited the collective translation of Scandinavian poets Inger Christensen, Pia Tafdrup, and Pia Juul ("Poetry", issues 25 & 26, 2005), as well as the collective publication of Greek poets in English ("Poetry Review", issue 102:1, Spring 2012). His poems and translations have been published in the magazines "Poetry", "Intervention", "Poetics", "Plateau", "Teflon", e-poema.eu, frear.gr, poets.gr, "Little Red Leaves", "New American Writing", "parentheses", "Poetry Review".
