Omiros Mayridis

Author Homer Mavridis, a university professor and Doctor of Philosophy, was born in 1939 in Kassitera Sapon (Thrace) to a Pontic father and a Thracian mother. A graduate of the Pedagogical Academy of Alexandroupolis, he studied Psychology, Philosophy, and Pedagogy at the University of Tübingen (Germany) and completed his studies with a doctorate at the University of Münster. He later taught Social and Educational Psychology at the Universities of Hagen and Dortmund. He conducted numerous seminars on "Group Dynamics." During his vacations, he captured Greece in slides from end to end and presented them to Greeks and Germans throughout Germany. He was also a founding member of many associations (scientific, German-Greek, charitable, cultural, etc.). Additionally, he taught traditional Greek dances to both Greeks and Germans. Alongside all these activities, he began his writing career with his first novel in German: "Die Steinschlacht bei Sappe" (8,000 copies). This was followed by "Crucified Youth" (translated into German), "The Stone Battle in Sapes," "Our Greece is Dying Slowly," "The Education of Exile" (reprints: Herodios). Today, after 42 full years of contribution in Germany, he lives in Alexandroupolis and is exclusively dedicated to his writing. He has published with Empiria Publishing "Our Vineyard in Pontus" and "Kallisto and Ibrahim," also with Herodios "Group Games," "Jonah II," "My Turkish Niece," and with Malliaris Publishing: "Asnif - Uprooted from Armenia to Greece" (translated into Armenian) and "Tearful Diamond - A Pomak Woman's Window to the Sky." In February 2011, his literary work was awarded by the Association of Publishers of Northern Greece.
