Spyros D. Syropoulos

Spyros D. Syropoulos was born in Rhodes in 1970. He studied Greek and Latin philology and history at the University of Bristol in the UK. At the same university, he completed his Master of Arts degree (1993) and his Ph.D. (1997). He worked for three years as a teaching assistant in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Bristol. He taught for two years on assignment in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras (1999-2001) and in educational programs at the University of the Aegean and the Ministry of Education. Since October 2001, he has been a lecturer in the Department of Mediterranean Studies at the University of the Aegean. Since 2003, he has been teaching ancient Greek history to American students in the "Study Abroad at the University of Aegean. Rhodes, Greece" program of the Center for Hellenic Studies "Paideia," at the Campus of the University of Connecticut. He has participated in several international conferences and has published articles in Greek and foreign scientific journals. He is an alternate member of the local council for Monuments and Antiquities of the Dodecanese (Ministry of Culture) and a regular member of the Board of Directors of the International Writers and Translators Center of Rhodes, where he contributes as a member of the editorial committee of the literary magazine Helios and the committee for the approval of publications and book presentations. He is also a member of the Greek Society of History of Education, the Society of Greek Philologists, and the Panhellenic Union of Philologists.
