Nana Isaia

Nana Isaia (1934-2003) was born in Athens. She spent a year in London studying at a secretarial college after high school. She then studied painting at the Free Workshop of Fine Arts in Athens from 1958 to 1962. Isaia participated in six Panhellenic painting exhibitions (1960-1975), took part in group exhibitions (1960-62), and held her first solo exhibition at the Ora Gallery in Athens in 1974. She was a member of the Society of Authors, the Hellenic Society of Literary Translators, and the Greek PEN Club. Isaia hosted radio programs on the First Program during the years 1988-89 and 1992-94. In 1981, she was awarded the State Literature Prize for her poetry collection "Morphe." Her poems were published in numerous Greek and international magazines. After 1997, she published critical articles in the newspaper To Vima. Her essays have been featured in Greek magazines. Isaia represented Greece at the Fourth European Poetry Festival in Leuven, Belgium, and also in Lisbon at the annual meeting of poets at the Portuguese PEN Club in 1996.
