Vasilis Vasilikos

Vassilis Vassilikos, son of Nikolaos, was born in Kavala on November 18, 1934. Education: Karyotakis High School (Kavala), Valagiannis School, American College Anatolia (Thessaloniki), Law School (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Yale University - Drama School, SRT - School of Radio and Television (New York) for television directing. He has worked as an assistant director in foreign productions, documentary director, screenwriter, script editor (Dr), script consultant at Arte (1990-1993), amateur actor, journalist, author, Deputy General Director at ERT-1 (1981-1984), City Councilor of Athens (1994-1996), Ambassador of Greece to UNESCO (1996-2004), President of the Society of Authors (2001-2005). Honors: Award of the "12" (1961, for the trilogy "The Leaf. The Well. The Annunciation"), State Short Story Award (1980, for "The Last Goodbye") which he declined, International Mediterraneo Award (1970). Honorary Doctor of the University of Patras in the Department of Philology, Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic (1984), Member of the International Parliament of Writers based in Strasbourg, Member of the Board of French Writers (Maison des Ecrivains, France, 1990-1993). He is the most translated Greek author after Kazantzakis, Ritsos, and Cavafy. His books have also been published in Braille. He is married to soprano Vasso Papantoniou, and they have a daughter, Eurydice.
