Tasos CHatzianastasiou

Tasos Chatziannastasiou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1965. He studied History and Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1998, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Armed Resistance Groups Against the Bulgarian Occupation of Eastern Macedonia and Western Thrace, 1941-1944," most of which was published in 2003 under the title: "Rebels and Captains: The National Resistance Against the Bulgarian Occupation of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, 1942-1944." Specifically for the events in Drama, he co-authored with D. Paschalidis the monograph: "The Events of Drama, September - October 1941, Uprising or Provocation?" which was awarded the Academy of Athens Prize in 2004. His other works include: "The Volcano of the Balkans: The Balkans After the Cold War" (1992), "The Other School: A Proposal for Inclusive Education from the Experience of Teaching in Technical Vocational Education" (2001), "The Defeat Complex: Cyprus and the Metapolitefsi" (2004), and "The School is Turned Upside Down: Language Teaching in Technical Vocational Education and the Students' Texts" (2011). He has also translated from Spanish Che Guevara's speech at the UN General Assembly in 1964 titled "Homeland or Death" and Simon Bolivar's "Cartagena Manifesto." He has taught at the University of Crete, the University of Palermo, and the University of Cyprus. Since 2009, he has been living and working as a philologist in Nafplio.
