Nikos Stampakis

Nikos Stampakis was born in Piraeus in 1969. He is a film historian, translator, and editor. He has extensively studied the works of Luis Buñuel, partly under the guise of 'academic' engagement (publications in English and Greek, presentation at an international conference, successfully conducted doctoral research at a British university). His adolescent poetry was published in 1992 by Nefeli Editions. He has presented and edited books by authors such as Percy Bysshe Shelley, Joris-Karl Huysmans, George du Maurier, Rikki Ducornet, among others, some of which he has translated himself. He has also participated as a co-editor and co-translator in an upcoming anthology of international surrealism and other planned surrealist publications. Since 2004, he has been part of the team of the magazine "Farfoulas" and collaborated with the magazine "Nea Syntelia" as a translator (mainly of surrealist texts) and copywriter. He is a founding member of the Surrealist Group of Athens. He has published the poetry collection "The Chest with the Marbles" (Farfoulas Editions, 2007) and has translated poetry by Benjamin Peret ("Posting Prohibited", Ypsilon Editions), Edward Lear ("The Writings of Nonsense", Farfoulas Editions, 2007), the anthology "Surrealism in Greece" (University of Texas Press, 2008), and many other books and shorter texts. He is a member of the editorial team of the magazine "Klidonas".
