Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke, a four-time Oscar nominee (twice for screenwriting and twice for Best Supporting Actor), was born in 1970 in Austin, Texas, to teenage parents who divorced when he was just four years old. At fourteen, he began studying the art of acting at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, where he made his film debut in 1985 in the movie "Explorers" alongside River Phoenix. He continued his studies at Carnegie Mellon University but soon left when he was cast in the film "Dead Poets Society." He has starred in films such as "Reality Bites," "Gattaca," "Training Day," as well as Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise," "Before Sunset," "Before Midnight," and "Boyhood." He is the author of the novels "The Hottest State" and "Ash Wednesday." He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his four children and his wife, Ryan Hawke. He was previously married to Uma Thurman (1998-2004), with whom he has two children.
