Giannis Giannopoulos

Giannis Giannopoulos holds a degree and a Ph.D. from the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens. He pursued further studies in Turkology at the Istituto Universitario Orientale di Napoli. He has been a visiting researcher at the Hellenic Institute of Venice. Giannopoulos has taught at the Ionideios Model School of Piraeus, the School and Training Centers for Secondary Education Teachers in Athens, the Tutorial for Historical Studies at the National Research Foundation, and the Department of History, Archaeology, and Anthropology at the University of Thessaly. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Department of Primary Education at the University of the Aegean. He contributed to "The History of the Greek Nation" (Ekdotiki Athinon) and "The History of Modern Hellenism" (Ellinika Grammata). He served on the editorial boards of the journals Mnimon and Eoa kai Esperia. For years, he collaborated on educational programs of the Hellenic Parliament. He has authored numerous studies on modern history, the theory, and teaching of history, such as: "The Administrative Organization of Central Greece during the Ottoman Rule (1393-1821)" (doctoral dissertation, Athens, 1971), "Crete during the Fourth Venetian-Turkish War (1570-1571)" (Athens, 1978), "Essays on the Theory and Teaching of History" (Athens, 1997, 2nd edition: 2011), "Alexander and Demetrios Ypsilantis" (Athens, 2010). At the Hellenic Open University, he teaches the thematic unit "Introduction to Byzantine Culture," included in the volume "Introduction to Greek Culture" (Patras, 2000).
