Dimitris T. Analis

Dimitris T. Analis (1938-2012, full name: Dimitris Tsakanikas Analis) was a Francophone author known for his poetic and essayistic work, specializing in geostrategic issues and the problems of Balkan minorities. He studied law and political science in Paris, Lausanne, and Geneva. His dissertation, "The Seizure of Power in Post-War Balkans," was published in 1978 by the University Press of France and was hailed as the first in-depth analysis of the region. During the dictatorship, he worked for the Swiss press and later for the French "Le Monde" and the magazine "Nouvelles Littéraires." He was a collaborator for several years with the Information Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later served as a special advisor on Western European issues. He also gave seminars and lectures at the Center for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies in France, as well as at European universities and institutes. Most of his books were written in French and published in France. In Greek, the following collections were released: "The Hands" (1958), "Uranoupoli" (1972), "Sun of the Rivers" (1972), "The Haunted Island" (1974), "Sails for Wandering" (1976), "The Shadow that Builds" (1978), "People of the Other Shore" (2006), and the novellas "The Other Kingdom" and "Cilia or The Golden Sixties" (2008). A year later, his correspondence with the Syrian poet Adonis was published under the title "Friendship, Time, and Light: Letters from the Mediterranean." He also published more than two hundred articles and studies on diplomatic and strategic studies. He was a member of the International Monitoring Council of the Rights and Minorities Group and an honorary member of the Writers' Society. He was honored by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Stendhal Prize for his contribution to literature and science. He passed away in Athens on February 3, 2012, at the age of 74.
