
Antony Beevor
The historian Antony Beevor was born in England in 1946. He studied at Winchester College and Sandhurst. As a regular officer in the 11th Hussars, he served in Germany and England until he resigned from the army after five years of service. He is married to Artemis Cooper, with whom he co-authored "Paris after the Liberation, 1944-1949." Both have been named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government. He has written novels and historical books, including "Crete: The Battle and the Resistance" (Runciman Award), "Berlin: The Downfall 1945" (Longman-History Today Trustees' Award), "Stalingrad" (Samuel Johnson Prize, Wolfson History Prize, and Hawthornden Prize for Literature), "The Mystery of Olga Chekhova," "The Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939," and "A Writer at War: Vasily Grossman with the Red Army." His books have been translated into thirty languages and have sold over four million copies.
