THeodoros Georgakis

Theodoros G. Georgakis was born in Lefkada. He studied Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as Political Science and International Relations at Panteion University, where he was awarded a doctorate. Since 1974, he has been practicing law and is an Advocate at the Supreme Court of Greece. From his student years, he has been involved in democratic and social struggles. In 1969, the military regime revoked his scholarship for his studies at Aristotle University due to his political beliefs. From 1990 and for four consecutive terms until 2006, he served in Local Government as the elected Mayor of Ilioupoli, as well as in other collective bodies of local authorities in Greece and Europe (Committee of the Regions of the EU). In 2007, he spearheaded the establishment of the Local Government Officials Preparation Group (OPSAG), of which he remains President to this day. He is also a founding member and Vice President of the Union of Mayors of Attica. He is the father of three children. His daughter, Stamatina, is a journalist, and his twin sons, Giorgos and Nikos, are lawyers. Among his many interests and pursuits, literature and poetry are his most cherished.
