Maria Nikolopoulou

Maria Nikolopoulou studied Philology at the University of Athens and earned her master's and doctoral degrees in Modern Greek Literature from the University of London (King's College). Her dissertation, titled "The Discourse of Testimony in Modern Greek Prose, 1924-1994," examines how literary texts transform historical experience. She has engaged with numerous texts on the Greek Civil War and the Asia Minor Catastrophe, exploring how they contribute to shaping the memory of historical events. Her theoretical interests include reception, literature as a form of discourse that shapes memory, the interaction of discourse genres within the framework of postmodernism, and the role of the press in the history of ideas. Her participation in the research program "The Visual and Literary Presence of Women in Literary and Art Magazines 1900-1940" directs her interests towards the reception of women's literary production and women writers who are included in or omitted from the literary canon. She teaches Modern Greek and European literature in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras (407/80) and at the Hellenic Open University (as a member of the Adjunct Faculty).
