Pedro Gutiérrez

Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, often referred to as the Bukowski of the Caribbean, was born in Cuba in 1950. Before becoming a writer, he held various jobs, ranging from ice cream vendor and newspaper seller to swimming and kayaking instructor. He spent many years working as a journalist and broadcaster on radio and television. A father of five children from three different marriages, Gutiérrez is deeply rooted in the poverty and intellectual life of Cuba. He divides his time between writing, enjoying rum in Havana's most underground spots, and occasional trips to Spain to visit his third wife. His work has been translated into many languages worldwide, and his novel "The King of Havana" was adapted into a film. For more information, visit his website: www.pedrojuangutierrez.com.
