George R. R. Martin

George Raymond Richard Martin was born in 1948 in New Jersey, USA. He is considered one of the greatest authors of fantasy literature. Martin studied journalism at Northwestern University in Illinois and worked as a screenwriter and producer for television and film. He began his writing career in 1971 when his short story "Hero" was published in "Galaxy" magazine. In 1997, he achieved international acclaim with "A Game of Thrones," the first installment of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The books in this series have received outstanding reviews, been translated into more than ten languages, and sold millions of copies worldwide. To date, Martin has been honored with the Locus Award six times, the Hugo Award four times, the Nebula Award twice, and has also won the World Fantasy and Bram Stoker awards.
