Giorgos Salakidis

Giorgos Salakidis studied Classical Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Turkology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. He teaches Ottoman language and literature, Turkish language, and contemporary Turkish literature at the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini. He completed his doctoral dissertation titled "Larissa in the mid-17th century based on Ottoman judicial documents from the years 1650-1652," which he submitted to the Department of Translation and Interpretation at the Ionian University in Corfu. His books, including "Sultansurkunden des Athos-Klosters Vatopedi aus der Zeit Bayezid II. und Selim I. Kritische Edition und wissenschaftlicher Kommentar," Thessaloniki 1995, "The Sultan's Documents of the Municipal Library of Kozani," Kozani 2004, "The Province of Servia in the 16th Century through Ottoman Sources," Thessaloniki 2013 (in collaboration with K. Kampouridis), and "Central Greece in the 15th Century. The Unpublished Ottoman Register of 1485," Thessaloniki 2014 (in collaboration with G. Theocharidis), explore various social and economic aspects of Ottoman history. He translated into Greek the novels "Beyaz Kale" by Orhan Pamuk (Athens 2005) and "Nur Baba" by Yakup Kadri (Thessaloniki 2011). He published in Greek translation with introduction and commentary the "Beng ü Bade" by Fuzuli (Thessaloniki 2019). In collaboration with Börte Sagaster, he co-authored a "History of Modern Turkish Literature" (Nicosia 2019).
