Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Carlos Ruiz Zafón (September 25, 1964 - June 19, 2020) was born in Barcelona. In 1993, he won the Premio Edebé award with his first novel, "El príncipe de la niebla" ("The Prince of Mist"). He later published the novels "El palacio de la medianoche" ("The Midnight Palace"), "Las luces de Septiembre" ("The September Lights"), and "Marina". His works have been published in numerous countries around the world and have achieved great success. In 2001, his first novel for adults, "The Shadow of the Wind," was published. It was nominated for the Premio de Novela Fernando Lara and is considered, after Don Quixote, the most successful novel in the publishing history of Spain. His works have been translated into more than 40 languages, have received numerous awards, and have sold over 15 million copies across five continents. In the 1990s, he moved to Los Angeles and divided his life between Spain and America. He passed away at his home in Los Angeles on June 19, 2020, after a battle with cancer, at the age of 55.
