Terence Dickinson
Terence Dickinson's interest in astronomy began at the age of 5 when he witnessed a bright meteor. After a decade-long tenure as a member of the astronomy staff at two planetariums during the 1960s and 1970s, he dedicated himself exclusively to writing and journalism. In addition to authoring 15 books, he writes a weekly astronomy column for "The Toronto Star," Canada's largest newspaper, and serves as the editor-in-chief of the Canadian magazine SkyNews. Among his numerous awards are the Children's Book of the Year Award from the New York Academy of Sciences, the Klumpke-Roberts Award from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific for outstanding contributions to public understanding of astronomy, the Order of Canada distinction, and an honorary Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario (Canada). The asteroid 5272 Dickinson is named in his honor.
