G. D. Dimopoulos is a Macedonian. He was born in Gorgopi, Paionia. After completing his studies in Thessaloniki, he pursued postgraduate studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned his Ph.D. in Economics in 1969. From September 1969 to July 1977, he served as Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor of Economics at the Rochester Institute of Technology (USA). In July 1977, he assumed the position of Full Professor at the First Chair of Political Economy at the Athens University of Economics and Business. Since 1988, he has been a regular visiting professor at the University of Giessen in Germany. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Macroeconomic Theory and Policy and Monetary Theory and Policy in the Department of Economics. He is one of the founders of the Graduate Program in Economic Studies and has served as its Director. Specializing in macroeconomic and monetary theory and policy, he has published articles, studies, and book reviews in international scientific journals. He is a founding member of the Hellenic University Association for European Studies and the European Movement. From December 1981 to December 1984, he served as an Economic Advisor in the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission in Brussels.
