Spyros Gounaris

Spyros Gounaris is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the Department of Marketing & Communication at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He studied Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business, earning his degree in 1989. He completed his Master’s degree (MSc in Marketing) at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 1990 and was awarded a Ph.D. from the Department of Business Research & Marketing at the Athens University of Economics and Business in 1995. He teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and more than 30 of his scientific articles have been published in prestigious international marketing journals such as Industrial Marketing Management, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Services Marketing, and Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, among others. He has also presented at significant conferences like the European Marketing Academy, of which he has been a member since 1993, and the Service Excellence of the American Marketing Association. Notably, he received the Highest Quality Rating award from ANBAR for his article "Marketing Orientation and Company Performance: A Comparative Study of Industrial vs. Consumer Goods Companies," published in Industrial Marketing Management, vol. 26, no. 5, 1997. He also received the Best Paper Award for his article "Market Orientation Development: A Comparison of Industrial vs. Consumer Goods Companies," published in the Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, vol. 16, no. 5, pp. 354-81. Furthermore, he has been appointed as a guest editor for a special issue on bank product portfolio management by the International Journal of Bank Marketing. His extensive research activities have led him to serve on the editorial boards of reputable international journals such as Industrial Marketing Management and Journal of Service Research. His scientific expertise lies in the areas of Business Culture Development and Market-Oriented Strategies, Services Marketing, Customer Service and Satisfaction, New Service Development, Business-to-Business Marketing, Adoption and Diffusion of Digital Technology, and Strategic Marketing. In addition to his academic and research work, he has conducted numerous consultancy studies for various businesses and public organizations, including Intertrust, Habitat, OTE, OTENET, Yellow Pages, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, Commercial Bank, BodyShop, Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos," the Hellenic Organization for Standardization, and many more. Beyond his research and consultancy work, he has trained a large number of executives in in-company seminars covering a wide range of topics such as services marketing, customer service, relationship marketing and sales, strategic marketing, negotiations, key account management, product portfolio management, market orientation development, etc. Some of the companies he has collaborated with over time include, among others, Commercial Bank, Apivita, Hellenic Post, Athenian Brewery, ALCON, Silver & Barytes, Spyrou S.A., TOYOTA HELLAS, OSE, DELTA, EGNATIA BANK, Eurobank, Interamerican, CrediCom, Agricultural Bank of Greece, Rilken, Dell Computers, Roche, and many others.
