Liza Vrachopoulou

Liza Vrachopoulou hails from Thessaloniki. She studied philology and theater. She performs at the State Theater of Northern Greece and in independent theater productions. In Paris, she attended theater classes at the Rene Simon school. She continued her studies at the Sorbonne (Lettres modernes) and simultaneously earned a degree from the University of Thessaloniki. She translates French plays that are performed in Greece. Later, she moved to London, where she taught Greek and French at Berlitz, St. Giles, and Linguarama. She published "Modern Greek for Foreigners" and also engaged in journalism. An inquisitive spirit, she travels extensively across Europe, Africa, and India. In Nigeria, she worked as a teacher at Queens College. Using African legends, she staged puppet shows. She writes plays and choreographs them herself. Upon returning, she was appointed as a teacher and taught for two years at the Fire Academy. She wrote and presented her work "Oneirochora" in morning programs on the First Program. She continued with puppet shows like "Round and Round We Go, Peace in the Middle" and "The Magical Book of Knowledge." Simultaneously, she studied Folklore at the University of Thessaloniki. She was seconded as a teacher to Alexandria, Egypt, at the Averofeio, and then to Cairo, at the Ambetios School. At the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, she taught Greek and ancient tragedy at the University of Cairo. She performed puppet shows at nursing homes in Alexandria and Cairo and contributed articles to the local newspaper FOS of the Greek Community. A close collaborator of Kostis Moskof, she staged "Iphigenia in Tauris" in Greek (Cairo Opera-Conference Hall, Alexandria). Her rich cultural activities include writing, directing, and staging theatrical performances in public schools (including a photo exhibition "The Children of the Earth," peace events, and puppet shows). She continued with puppet shows at the SOS Children's Village, the Ark, the Thessaloniki Nursing Home, the Pontian Ladies' Welfare, and the Athens Nursing Home. She participates in social struggles and with OLME. She is a member of the Society of Greek Writers and the Panhellenic Union of Writers.
