Robert Whitaker

Robert Whitaker is a science journalist and the author of the book Mad in America. He has received the George Polk Award for medical writing and the National Association of Science Writer's Award for best magazine article. In 1998, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, which is considered the highest honor in journalism. He has also published over twenty short stories in literary magazines such as Indiana Review, Black Warrior Review, Florida Review, and Columbia: A Magazine of Poetry and Prose. His passion for South America began in the late 1970s when he started living in a bamboo hut he built himself on the coast of Ecuador. Today, he lives and writes in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
