Paylos Nathanail

Pavlos Nathanail was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1937, where he spent his childhood and teenage years. He began engaging with literature at a very young age, publishing his writings in magazines from the age of seventeen, and his first book was released when he was eighteen. Later, he moved to Athens, where he worked as a journalist and an English teacher. Simultaneously, he studied English literature and law, though he abandoned the latter upon realizing he could not pursue a career as a lawyer. After succeeding in a specialized recruitment competition, he joined the BBC, where he worked for over 20 years. His long stay in London "changed his perspective." He also completed his studies, earning a degree in international relations from the University of London. At the BBC, he rapidly climbed the ranks and reached the position of Director of Southern European Programs. He is the only Greek to have held such a high position at the BBC. Upon returning to Greece, he resumed his journalism career and served as the General Director of ERA for a period. His parallel engagement with literature continued throughout these years. He published three poetry collections, a short story collection, two volumes of essays, and three anthologies. He has published hundreds of articles in literary magazines and newspapers and translated numerous works and books on international politics. Today, he is the President of the Society of Greek Writers and Vice President of the "Observatory of International Organizations and Globalization."
