Charles S. Spencer

Charles Spencer was born in London to parents of Russian and Polish descent. He studied in London and Rome. An internationally renowned art critic, he served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Art and Artists" and authored books on Erté, Léon Bakst, Diaghilev, the Russian Ballets, and Cecil Beaton. He has lectured at various universities around the world, including in Europe, the United States, and Russia. Spencer first visited Greece in the late 1950s, where he met Spyropoulos. He later met other famous Greek artists and wrote significant critiques about them, including Apergis, Droungas, Zongolopoulos, Theodoros, Kaloutsis, Kanaginis, Kapralos, Karas, Moralis, Michalea, Xenakis, Sachinis, Takis, Fassianos, and others. He has also organized numerous exhibitions of Greek artists in London. During his stay in Athens, he collaborated with the British Council, the "Desmos" and "Zoumboulakis" galleries, delivered regular lectures, and contributed articles to various art magazines.
