Agela Kastrinaki

Angela Kastrinaki was born in Athens in 1961. She studied classical philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Today, she teaches modern literature in the Department of Philology at the University of Crete. In 1990, she published her first short story collection, "Guest," with Estia Publications. This was followed by the collections "Excursions with Friends," Estia, 1993, "The Limits of Warmth," Polis, 1999, "Versions of Penelope," Polis, 2002, as well as the novel "Love in the Time of Irony," Hellenic Letters, 2008. The dominant themes in her prose are the subtle psychological nuances in the relationships between the sexes, focusing on love and the challenges of fidelity and infidelity from a female perspective—topics she handles with humor, keen observation, and a slightly ironic tone. Her short stories have been translated into Spanish, Italian, French, and Finnish. Her interpretative-historical contribution to modern Greek literature, "Literature in the Turbulent Decade 1940-1950" (Polis Publications, 2005), was awarded the State Literary Essay-Criticism Prize in 2006.
