Suad Amiry

Suad Amiry was born in 1951 in Damascus, grew up in Amman, and studied architecture in Beirut, Michigan, and Edinburgh. She participated in the Arab-Israeli peace negotiations in Washington (1991-93) and held high-ranking positions in the Palestinian Ministry of Culture (1994-96). An author of several books on architecture, she founded the Center for the Protection of Architectural Heritage (RIWAQ), where she is actively involved with great enthusiasm. She was awarded the Viareggio-Versilia Prize in Italy for this book (2004), which has already been translated and published in twelve countries. She currently resides in Ramallah, where she teaches at Birzeit University.
