Nikos Iliopoulos

Nikos Iliopoulos was born in 1952 in Kalamata. He actively participated in the anti-dictatorship movement and was a member of the Interior Communist Party of Greece. Since 1986, he has been living in Paris. He earned a diploma from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences with a thesis titled "Political Participation and Political Apathy in Contemporary Greece 1960-1990," conducted under the supervision of Cornelius Castoriadis. The multifaceted work of this significant thinker, who was a respected teacher and dear friend, has since fueled his own concerns and inspired his research. He holds a Ph.D. in "Social Sciences" from Paris X University, with a dissertation titled "Participation et apathie politiques dans la France contemporaine (Ve Republique de 1958 a nos jours)" ["Political Participation and Political Apathy in Contemporary France (5th Republic, from 1958 to the present)"], Atelier National de Reproduction des Theses, Lille 2005. The essay "New Paths for Democratic Political Thought" is the first he has published in Greek.
