Vasiliki Penna

Vasiliki Penna, Ph.D. in Medieval History from the University of Oxford, is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Peloponnese. She has worked for 23 years at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a curator of antiquities. Her research and teaching activities focus on the economic and monetary history of Byzantium, historical geography, and local history, primarily based on numismatic evidence and sigillography, with additional research in Byzantine prosopography and the history of money over time. She has organized exhibitions in Greece (Benaki Museum, Tellogleio) and abroad (Smithsonian Institution - Washington, Kunsthistorisches Museum - Vienna), aiming to highlight numismatics and the broader history of money as a product of cultural heritage. She has been a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at King's College London for three years (since 2009). She has published two monographs and more than fifty articles in national and international scientific journals.
