Antonis Anastasopoulos

Antonis Anastasopoulos is an Assistant Professor of Ottoman History in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Crete. He was born in Athens in 1969. He studied History and Archaeology at the University of Athens. He completed his postgraduate studies (M.Phil.) and his doctoral dissertation at the School of Oriental Studies, University of Cambridge. He has been teaching in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Crete since 1999 and collaborates in research with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology. His research interests focus on the institutions of the Ottoman state, the Ottoman provinces and their relations with the state, with an emphasis on the 18th century, as well as on Muslim tombstones from the Ottoman period.
