Roger Crowley

Roger Crowley was born in 1951 and studied English literature at the University of Cambridge. Coming from a naval family, he spent his childhood in Malta, where his passion for the history and culture of the Mediterranean was ignited. After finishing school, he spent several summers in Greece and, after graduating from university, lived in Istanbul for a year teaching English. Since then, he has continued to travel extensively in Greece and the Mediterranean, having visited Mount Athos twice. His love for the region and its history has resulted in two books, "Constantinople 1453" and "Empires of the Sea." He is married and lives in Gloucestershire, England.
