Eliot Weinberger

Eliot Weinberger was born in 1949 in New York, where he still resides. He is the primary translator of Octavio Paz into English. His anthology "American Poetry After 1950: Innovators and Outsiders" (1993) became a bestseller in Mexico, and his edition of Jorge Luis Borges' "Selected Non-Fictions" (1999) received the Critics' Award. In 1992, he was awarded the PEN / Gregory Kolovakos Award for promoting Spanish literature in the USA, and in 2000, he became the first American writer to receive the Order of the Aztec Eagle from the Mexican government. His recent publications include the essay collection "Karmic Traces 1993-1999" and the translation of poems by Chinese poet Bei Dao. He also edited the "Anthology of Classical Chinese Poetry" for New Directions (2003). His latest book is "What Happened Here" ("The Bush Chronicles"), which includes the essay "What I Heard About Iraq" and its sequel "What I Heard About Iraq in 2005," as well as other writings about Bush-era America.
