Giorgos K. CHatzopoulos

Giorgos K. Chatzopoulos was born to Pontic farmer parents in Platania, Drama. He studied philology at the University of Athens and served as an assistant to Professor and Academician Georgios Megas in the Department of Folklore. He worked as an educator in middle and high schools in the Drama region. Since 1959, he has been engaged in history, archaeology, folklore, and literature, drawing inspiration from his Pontic heritage. He has authored several books, including "Linguistic and Folklore Studies of Andreadon Amisos" (three volumes), "Ancient Greek Theaters," "Contribution to the Folklore of Kryonero, Eastern Thrace," "Kryonero of Eastern Thrace," "The Carriage in Pontus," "Love and Exile in Pontic Poetry," "Folk Medicine in Pontus," "Figures of Speech in the Dialect of Andreadon," "The Life and Work of Saint Father Georgios Karslidis," "Miracles and Prophecies of Saint Father Georgios Karslidis," "Miscellanea from Andreadon," "Georgios Karslidis the Miracle Worker," "Through the Ruin," "Contribution to the Study of Pontic Folk Songs," "Joseph the Doubter," "Saint John the Forerunner of Platania," among others. He collaborated on the writing of the "Encyclopedia of Pontic Hellenism," completed in eight volumes. He is a corresponding member of the Committee of Pontic Studies, a member of the Union of Writers of Northern Greece, a partner of the Hellenic Folklore Society, president of the Drama Studies Society, and a member of the Committee for the Writing of the History of Drama, the Prefectural Education Committee of Drama, and N.E.PO.T.A. He has been awarded 24 prizes and distinctions, including twice by the Academy of Athens, twice by the Linguistic Society of Athens, twice by the Committee of Pontic Studies, twice by the Estia of Nea Smyrni, among others. He frequently broadcasts on radio and television stations in Drama, Kavala, Komotini, and ET3, and has written scripts for two historical television programs about Drama: "Living and Dead Cities" and "One City, One History: Drama."
