Giannis Papaoikonomou

Giannis Papaoikonomou was born in Piraeus and has been residing in Perama since 1953. He studied law at the University of Athens but left due to persecution by the Junta. In Paris, where he sought refuge, he studied history, archaeology, and art history at the Sorbonne universities (Paris IV - Paris I), obtaining two degrees (1973), a master's (1974), and his doctorate (1977), with his dissertation titled "The Greek Funerary Reliefs of the Louvre Museum." He taught Classical Archaeology at the University of Crete from 1979 to 1986. As a professor at the Tourist Guide Schools of the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT), he taught ancient history, classical archaeology, mythology, and tourism geography in Athens, Crete, Rhodes, and Mytilene from 1980 to 2002. He has written numerous scholarly articles in Greek and French journals, as well as "Notes on Ancient History and Classical Archaeology" for the Tourist Guide Schools. He has published poetry books, novels, and studies. He is the director of the Municipal Cultural Organization of Perama.
