Marilia Eisenstein-Averoff studied philosophy before beginning her psychoanalytic training in 1977 at the Institute of the Psychoanalytic Society of Paris. She became a teaching analyst in 1992, the same year she was awarded the Bouvet Prize. She served as president of the Psychoanalytic Society of Paris from 1995 to 1999, and subsequently became president of the Psychosomatic Institute of Paris. A founding member and long-time editorial board member of the Revue Francaise de Psychosomatique, she was elected as the European representative to the Executive Council of the International Psychoanalytical Association and later became president of the New Groups of the International Association. Since 2004, she has been a teaching analyst at the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society, dividing her activities between Paris and Athens. She has published one hundred and sixty articles translated into many languages and four books. Her book "Desire, Pain, Thought," first published in Greek, encapsulates the essence of her latest research.
